The town is situated in the largest wine producing area of the country, and is subsequently the largest employer. It is surrounded by wine and table grape farms which create employment opportunities for much of the population. Worcester is the main economic and service centre of the Breede Valley Region. Being so centrally situated, an hour from Cape Town, Hermanus, Montagu and Touwsriver, and even less from Paarl, Tulbagh and Ceres, Worcester is a central hub for industry, shopping and tourism.
